Republicans hang on to negativity as a viable means of winning an election. This is truly pathetic.

Although McCain has been pumping out negative ads throughout August and September, Republican state leaders and officials want to see him becoming even more personal, exploiting Obama's links with figures he knew in Chicago. These include: William Ayers, a former member of Weather Underground, a group involved in a 1970s bombing campaign in the US; the Rev Jeremiah Wright, his controversial former pastor; and Tony Rezko, the land developer convicted of fraud and bribery earlier this year who had contributed to his campaign funds.

After having gone back and forth on the better candidate between McCain and Obama, it is becaming more clear that Obama has a better grasp of the issues and more integrity. The religious question for me is not even a factor. The human question is a factor. Watch the above video. Personally, I got enough sickening negative campaigning for a lifetime during the last two major elections. What do you think?

MCCain: no due diligence on Palin.

McCain also criticized $450,000 set aside for an agricultural processing facility in Wasilla that was requested during Palin's tenure as mayor and cleared Congress soon after she left office in 2002. The funding was provided to help direct locally grown produce to schools, prisons and other government institutions, according to Taxpayers for Common Sense, a nonpartisan watchdog group.

Come on, now.

Look, this means one of two things. Either John McCain barely looked into Palin's background and didn't realize he called her a Federal funding hog in the past. Or, McCain's team did vet her, knew she worked for everything McCain stood against, and he didn't give a damn that she wasn't the reformer he would make her out to be. If that's true, then he's saying he doesn't care because this was a craven political selection, not one based on principle or ability.

Whichever it is, it sure isn't good for McCain. But, he does need to answer this important question - did he vet her, or is he simply misrepresenting her to the nation?

Oh, and this has nothing to do with sexism. It has to do with the man topping the ticket, not doing his due diligence on his first major presidential decision.

Samuel Israel III, a billionaire co-founder of the Bayou Group, is being sought by police after his car was found abandoned on the Bear Mountain Bridge in upstate New York with the words "suicide is painless" written into the dust on its bonnet. The authorities said that no body had been found, and that they were keeping an "open mind". Mr Israel had been due to report to prison by 2pm on Monday after being sentenced in April for his role in a scheme to cheat investors of $450m (£230m). Bruce Cuccia, a police investigator, said that no witnesses had seen anyone leave the vehicle or jump from the bridge, 40 miles north of New York. CCTV footage was inconclusive.
